My name is Tim Lynk and I have been a professional singer, musician and performer all my life and a teacher of singing and music technology for the last twenty years.
At the age of four my Mother used to scold me for singing ‘against the tune’, when I was singing a variety of harmony lines with whoever was singing on the radio!!
From the age of seven I sang in a very prestigious English choir eventually becoming the head-boy and main soloist.
It was from this environment that my musical ear and my voice were first introduced to working within superbly intricate harmonic vocal creations from the major works of many of the all-time great choral (and therefore vocal harmony) composition masters – Mozart, Bach, Mendelssohn, Haydn, Parry, Purcell etc.
As my voice matured I was offered a range of opportunities to work as lead singer and front-man in various rock bands, as well as recording projects and contractoral links with major labels.
I also toured the world singing the lead roles with various international fully staged rock musicals, one of which merited standing ovations singing the lead role to standing ovations from capacity crowds of 7,000 people on two occasions at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
I settled in Australia and began working as a solo performer for some years in many different venues up and down the Australian Eastern Seaboard from Melbourne to Cairns and notably on the Gold Coast.
From there I moved to Melbourne where I formed ‘The Tim Lynk Band’, which continues to perform for many corporate and private functions.
The Band is sought after not only in Melbourne but also interstate and overseas primarily in and around South East Asia.
After my many years working as a professional singer ‘at the coal face’ in such a wide and diverse range of circumstances I realised that I had something of great value to offer to other artists who, like me are also required to use their voices in their jobs - primarily singers, but also public speakers, voice-over artists and actors.
I started to research how best to help people who were still struggling with the usual vocal issues that most singers unfortunately too often perceive as an unavoidable and intrinsic legacy of the job.
I set up a recording studio in Melbourne to provide singers of all skill levels with a haven where they could listen back to their own performances and identify any artistic and interpretive aspects that were lacking from their presentation.
My students were now also able to make albums and demos whilst I guided them to artistically improve their delivery from the teaching methods I had available to me at that time.
This was working quite well and my students were happy but I was not at all yet satisfied with the extent to which I could help – there had to be quicker, better and more effective procedures available somewhere, which would further assist my students to reach greater levels of excellence.
At last my research lead me to an extraordinary vocal system that gave me exactly what I was looking for.
This system firstly restores full operational health to the voice and then gives awareness of exactly how to safely optimise all the diverse and intricate muscular structures inside the actual vocal tract.
The student can develop the awareness for making informed strategies and intelligent choices.
Most singers perform by a combination of sub-conscious instinct together with various ‘cosmetic’ goals.
There is no form of acquired muscular identification and control and so the quality of each performance will vary significantly because the ‘random factor’ still inevitably presides.
“I’m not really ever sure what it is that I’m actually doing inside my throat, but I guess it makes sense because it’s how I have always done this; and because it seems to sound ok and the customers like it - I guess I’d better keep going with what I’m doing here”.
This approach is the predominant mindset amongst most singers from those who only sing in the shower, to artists with a proven track record and to those who even regularly perform in huge concert stadiums.
There is no awareness of how to take active and executive control of the voice.
The instinctive and cosmetic assessments alone therefore unintentionally implicate the voice to be at the mercy of a variety of invasive and annoying vocal issues – sore throats, getting vocal fatigue after only one or two songs, decreasing vocal range, tonal restriction, pain, increasingly unfortunate pitch unreliability, a feeling of being choked whilst performing and an overall lack of any effective and sustainable vocal control.
If not dealt with properly these debilitating conditions can only degenerate until eventually it is just no longer possible to produce a passable vocal performance and can actually become painful in some cases to even sing at all.
At The Tim Lynk School Of Singing I now have the joy and privilege of specialising in giving singers of all ages, styles and skill levels their very own set of scientifically proven vocal tools and strategies.
This method restores full vocal usage, develops kinaesthetic awareness of the vocal musculature, gives healthy singing habits and enables the student to use the relevant muscular structures in the vocal tract correctly, thereby gaining a completely new-found confidence and freedom – no more sore throats, increased notational range, the ability to sing for hours without getting vocal fatigue, no pain, a brand new set of tonal colours to apply to your vocal tasks, a new-found pitch accuracy (auto-tune in the studio can become a thing of the past!!!), an entirely comfortable throat without the constant feeling of being constricted or strangled, and an overall positive feeling of being in control, because maybe for the first time in your life... you are!!!
I now also have various established singing teachers and vocal coaches coming to study with me to achieve their own transformational results that they no longer even dreamed were possible for themselves and their students.
I have a fully equipped ProTools recording studio, the resources of which are also made completely available to my students as an all-inclusive part of the vocal excellence and safety programs that I run here in Melbourne.
For those of us with vocal issues who are interstate or overseas I have a very successful ongoing history of achieving great results one-on-one online via Skype video conferencing.
I am so very grateful for the opportunity to help people so dramatically with a technique that works WITH the body and not AGAINST it, and I’m very proud of the ground-breaking achievements that we accomplish here at The Tim Lynk School Of Singing.
The method being taught here is potentially the greatest investment that any singer, actor or public speaker will ever make for their own craft – the reliable and healthy operating system for the human voice complete with the owners’ manual.
