Tim Lynk Tim Lynk Melbourne My name is Tim Lynk and I have been a professional singer, musician and performer all my life and a teacher of singing and music technology for the last twenty years. From the age of seven I sang in a large and prestigious choir in England, eventually becoming the head-boy and main soloist. It was from this environment that my musical ear and my voice were first introduced to working within superbly intricate harmonic vocal creations from the major works of many of the all-time great choral (and therefore vocal harmony) composition masters – Mozart, Bach, Mendelssohn, Haydn, Parry, Purcell etc. As my voice matured, I was offered a range of opportunities to work as lead singer and front-man in various rock bands, as well as recording projects and contractoral links with major labels. I toured the world singing the lead roles with fully staged rock musicals. Then settling in Australia, I began working as a solo performer for some years in numerous venues from Melbourne to Cairns and notably on the Gold Coast. Moving eventually to Melbourne, I formed ‘The Tim Lynk Band’, which performed for many corporate and private functions. I realised that my own professional development had also given me something significant to offer to other artists who, like me are also required to use their voices in their jobs - primarily singers, but also public speakers, voice-over artists and actors. I started to research how best to help people who were still struggling with the usual vocal issues that most singers unfortunately too often perceive as an unavoidable and intrinsic legacy of the job. I set up a small recording studio to provide singers with the opportunity of listening back to their own performances and identifying any aspects that might need improvement. The prospect of making recordings became a helpful tool for me in guiding my students to improve their delivery. This was working quite well but I was not yet satisfied with the available results. At last my research lead me to an extraordinary vocal system that gave me exactly what I was looking for - restoring full operational health to the voice and giving awareness of exactly how to safely optimise all the muscular structures inside the vocal tract, providing for informed strategies and intelligent choices. Most singers perform by a combination of sub-conscious instinct together with various ‘cosmetic’ goals. This approach is the predominant mindset with singers from all experience levels. The instinctive and cosmetic assessments alone unintentionally implicate the voice to be at the mercy of randomly invasive and annoying vocal issues – sore throats, early vocal fatigue, decreasing vocal range, tonal restriction, pain, pitch unreliability, a feeling of being choked whilst performing and an overall lack of any effective and sustainable vocal control. At The Tim Lynk School Of Singing my aim is to help the student to develop their own set of anatomically based vocal tools in the environment of a professional recording studio, which is specifically oriented for vocal production. I find it so rewarding to help people with a technique that works WITH the body and not AGAINST it, and I’m very proud of the ground-breaking achievements that we have already accomplished.
