A1 Alftavatn by Thomalla published on 2011/08/11 22:25:24 +0000 From the forthcoming Alftavatn EP. Out 20//08//12 on Krakatau Rec. 12" and digital. Alftavatn is Thomalla‘s second EP release on Berlin-based Techno-label Krakatau Records. The tracks captivate instantly and still surprise with imaginative variety, sudden shifts and dazzling timbre. 23 year-old Thomalla was featured as a co-musician on Bodi Bill's European ›What‹-Tour in 2011/12 and recently started playing live-shows on his own. His tracks unite artistic and dancefloor-compatible appeal, which he was also able to show during last year's visit of the Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid. The title track Alftavatn was inspired by the icelandic volcanic lake of the same name. The result is musical force of nature! The single elements of the track sweep you away like an undercurrent, submerge you and still suggest a conciliatory calmness. Propell resonates with the first track with its penetrating synthesizer lines and expansive pads. Yelling "Acid Acid Acid", it emphasizes melody while staying abstract and clearly pushing forward. Kikoshka features guitars and analogue drums and is still pure electronic dance music. Euphoric and narrative. The second version of Alftavatn is derived from Thomalla's live-set. It's barely reminiscent of the original track, but as soon as the kick-drum sets in, there's only here and now, anyway. Thomalla's Alftavatn EP articulates his forward-looking interpretation of electronic music, embedded in references of his own eclectic education. Techno without thought control.
