THE SWEATS is a curious and multi-faceted musical beast. It's the moniker of Melbourne-based musician, Pete Goodwin. By trade, he's a classically-trained composer and sound designer for theatre, film, TV and advertising. He's also a recording artist, producer and DJ. He's had various guises over the past twelve years of making music, but all this work in various fields came together under the name of THE SWEATS in late 2009.
The DJ aspect of Pete's work initially started as a means of "researching" what particular types of sounds would drive people silly on a dance floor, with the aim of relating that knowledge back into his own music production and composition for other mediums.
Beginning in 2006, Pete became a DJ act called, RED LIGHT DISCO... a mashed-up exploration of all things dance, pop and everything indie in between. RED LIGHT DISCO was a regular feature at Melbourne's party institution, Witness Protection Social Club, was the resident DJ at the monthly event, TUFF MUFF (For Lady Lovers), at The Glasshouse between 2007 & 2010, played at the Sydney Mardi Gras and Club Kooky in 2006, was Saturday night resident at Bimbo Deluxe in Fitzroy in 2006, played sets on both JJJ's Mix-Up and The Club, did a boutique mash-up album for now defunct seminal Australian record label, Festival Mushroom Records, created a catwalk soundtrack for Australian designer, Aurelio Costarella's collection launch at New York Fashion Week in 2009, as well as numerous other warehouse parties and private events.
A change of musical focus in the latter half of 2009 saw Pete take on the name, THE SWEATS, as a means of exploring a more club/EDM sound. As a resident DJ at for the past three years at Melbourne's famous JOHN Homosocial (@ The Liberty Social, New Guernica, Buffalo Club, The Toff), and the more underground, men-only, TROUGH Faggot Party, THE SWEATS has built a solid reputation for the ability to play both the perfect warm-up set, or a prime-time bangin' party set.
THE SWEATS was the Midsumma Festival Club resident DJ in 2011, and has also dropped sets at several other boutique Melbourne parties, including a Mish-Mash event's GOLD and BLUE parties. Of late, there have also been forays into the Sydney scene, with an invitation to play a party for renown adult film-star, Francois Sagat, in March of 2012, and a guest DJ appearance at the LOOSE ENDS party at Phoenix on Easter Sunday of 2013.
