THE SUN AND THE SKY
THE SUN AND THE SKY is a 4-piece indie synth rock band formed in Adelaide in January 2011. Attitude Magazine described them as "the rock'n'roll version of The Presets". Music blogger Spoz says their live show vibe is “a cocaine dance party in a trench coat”.
Comprised of brothers Tim Pearce (Vox, Synth), Sam Pearce (Guitar), Simon Pearce (Drums) and housemate Justin Pounsett (Bass, Vox), they write catchy yet dark- edged pop tunes, with influences from New Order, U2, Placebo, Nine Inch Nails, Interpol and The Killers.
Live, the vibe is intense – a kind of brooding high energy of synth and guitars, with plenty of 4 on the floor – but the lyrics leave you feeling like things might just turn out okay after all.
Although still relatively new on the live scene THE SUN AND THE SKY have already supported the likes of New Navy (Syd), Strange Talk (Melb), World’s End Press (Melb), We Are Fans (Melb), Kingswood (Melb), Boy In A Box (Melb), The Killgirls (Adel) and Messrs (Adel).
In January 2012 they were finalists to play Bands On Track at the Clipsal 500 and released a 4-track demo “Ceremony” at an over-capacity launch at Adelaide’s The Promethean. As a result of these events and associated press, several tracks were signed to JL Publishing and the band intends to work closely with JL Publishing in the future.
In July 2012 a single “River” was released with a video starring Susie Collins (The Boys Are Back, Home and Away), produced and supported by Kojo (Wolf Creek, etc), and with the benefit of an Arts SA grant to tour, the band toured the single to Melbourne for the first time.
THE SUN AND THE SKY is kicking off 2013 with a big show during the Adelaide Fringe at Arcade Lane and then a tour to Sydney to play Oxford Art Factory, 15 March – both in support of the band’s first major single release “Already One”. The track has been produced with The A & R Department and will be released 16 March, 2013.
A debut EP is planned for release later in 2013 as well as additional touring to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
