Matt Burke Music

Matt Burke has done a lot of living in his time on this earth. He grew up in a small town in central-Florida, chased a doomed-relationship all the way to South Bend Indiana, spent a brief stint in grad school in Michigan, moved to Chicago to develop his musicality and performance chops, eventually moved BACK to Florida to focus on playing music full time and developing a growing fanbase there, and eventually relocated to the heart of it all – Nashville, TN.

Since 2010, Burke has been writing and releasing music with his full band project – The Matt Burke Band. In the latter half of 2018, Burke suffered a major loss when his good friend and musical partner Leona Ellis lost her life unexpectedly to an undiagnosed illness. Ellis was the keys player for the Matt Burke Band and the pair had grown up together in Florida public school band programs since the 6th grade. Ellis’ death marked the end of the Matt Burke Band era and the beginning of a renewed focus on songwriting as a solo artist.

Burke has played many well-known music venues and street festivals over the years including, the Navy Pier Beer Garden and the Hard Rock Chicago, the Elbo Room, the Empty Bottle, Subterranean, Belmont Street Music Festival, Windy City Blues Fest, and the Foundation Room at the House of Blues, Chicago. Burke has been a featured showcase artist for the past three years running at the CDBaby DIY Musician’s conference, and has showcased at Belcourt Taps, Nashville the 2019 Southeast Regional Folk Alliance (SERFA) Conference, the 2019 Northeast Regional Folk Alliance Conference (NERFA), and the 2019 Muscle Shoals Songwriter Festival. Burke’s music has been featured on 90.7 WMFE – Orlando’s NPR affiliate – and he maintains an active solo performance schedule across the Midwest and Southeast.

Since moving to Nashville in 2019, Burke has been working hard to develop his voice and sound as a solo performer and songwriter. His new material shows sophistication and maturity as a singer-songwriter and invites comparisons to Jason Isbell and early Zac Brown. He sings songs about love, family, travelling, loss and heartbreak, and his soulful, powerful voice captivates audiences across the country.
