One element which makes music so powerful is its capacity to take listeners for a ride. DJ Kosta expresses progression and movement in music, transporting listeners to a magical place where unity and freedom is realised. This is DJ Kosta’s journey. Hailing from the east coast state of Florida, USA, Kosta’s career behind the decks began at the budding age of 14, where he frequently spun at house parties, high school dances, and pep rallies. This set the platform from which Kosta would develop as a DJ, mixing hip-hop, R&B, and reggae records at both clubs and underground radio stations across his hometown of Fort Lauderdale. Despite these marks of his musical development, Kosta’s first half of his 18 year career was not without its struggles. The DJ found himself in a legal battle regarding radio piracy, which forced him to remain in his hometown. After the smoke cleared, Kosta bounced back and took the opportunity to travel, allowing him to gig in some of Australia’s and New Zealand’s iconic night venues. Over 5 years of overseas adventure, Kosta was then able to carve out a signature sound in his mixes, blending the grit from the hood club beats of his hometown, with the eclectic city dance styles of Miami, Sydney, and Queenstown.
