The News Can Wait is a 5-piece Rock/Experimental-Punk band based out of Dallas, TX and Denver, CO. The News Can Wait is more than the sum of its parts, and more than a random name meaning nothing other than an entity of musicians. The News Can Wait is about something, it's about pushing aside the static of media and society telling you what you believe and realizing that we posses our lives and every part of it. The News Can Wait is about placing priority on perspective and taking a firm grasp at our individualized experience of life. Standing up as liberated individuals can bring us together, and embracing this new found liberation can enrich the opportunity we have with our lives.
Through nearly a decade behind the same driving force of founding member and guitarist Marcus Lopez, the band has undergone member changes and stylistic growth ultimately leading to their current state. The News Can Wait released their first self-titled EP in 2009, making their first mark in the music scene. After years of DIY booking and promotion, this EP gave the band a chance to tour and perform in support of a product of their earliest work with their new found vocalist Chad Webster. In the summer of 2013, The News Can Wait released their "Cloud Factory" EP showcasing a fresh new sound from the bands prior release. Again, this release was a landmark of a new evolution in the bands style with the addition of Zach Light tracking the drums and bass for the EP.
The News Can Wait has booked and promoted numerous DIY style tours around Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas through their existence. In May of 2013, the band toured the midwest and up to the Canadian border with Chicago band Knockout Kid for 3 weeks, marking the longest and furthest tour The News Can Wait had been on to date. In November of 2013, The News Can Wait toured Texas in support of He Is Legend (Tragic Hero Records), hitting nearly every major market in the state of Texas. Along with extensive regional touring, The News Can Wait has supported numerous acts in the city of Dallas including The Fall of Troy, Every Time I Die, Periphery, The Bled, The Dear Hunter, Touché Amore, and many others. The News Can Wait also took part in the only Riot Fest to take place in Dallas alongside Rise Against, Descendents, NOFX, Power Trip, and more.
The News Can Wait has been featured in various local publications and blogs including the Dallas Observer which states "The News Can Wait had a sound that recalled early At the Drive-In but also bands like Pop Unknown and Mineral" in response to their set supporting Touché Amore, Pianos Become The Teeth, and Seahaven in 2011. The News can Wait also received a lengthy review of Cloud Factory on Absolute Punk with a review of 9.3/10 comparing the EP to acts like Refused and At The Drive-In. Most recently, The News Can Wait was featured in the December issue of Alternative Press magazine under the AP&R section for unsigned artists.
In 2014, the band added long-time friends Clayton Straughan on the drums and Justin Payne on bass and backing vocals as Zach Light stepped into the role of 2nd guitar to complete the package they had been working for. The News Can Wait is now working on new material with the new and improved line-up, assuring listeners a new release before the end of the year to be followed by a full-length record in 2015. Along with the releases, the band is planning expansive touring through the rest of the country.
