Midnight Improvisations - Bugs On The Screen by The Ambassador of Trouts published on 2012/11/16 21:40:00 +0000 Midnight at Lava Beds National Monument-The story of the name: me and the family went camping one time at Lava Beds National Monument up in Northern California, on the other side of Shasta from 5. We get there late--like midnight. After a cup or two of red wine, the family went to bed. I was too wound up from driving so I stayed up and set about making a song with my laptop. As I worked, the fire died down, and the bottle of red went dry, and then the coleman lantern began to run out of gas. The lantern died out and I was left there working on this piece in the dark. In the dark there was only me and the light from the laptop in the middle of the campground in this high desert. And pretty soon, all the moths and bugs that had been circling the lantern made their way to continue their nocturnal party, dancing around and across my screen.
