The Twenty The Twenty Belfast Punk-influenced The Twenty were an independent rock band based in Belfast who emerged in the city’s underground scene in 2012 and gained a reputation for high-energy, no-frills performances and recordings. Having garnered praise from the likes of AU, Stephen McCauley and Goldenplec for their no-nonsense 5-track debut EP “Camarilla”, released in June 2013 with lead track “No More No” featuring within a BBCNI TV drama and making an impact as far as New York City punk radio, the band returned in mid-2014 with a tantalising double-single featuring the “simply awesome” (BBC’s Riggsy) original track “Have You Seen Her?” and an unexpected but brilliant nod to some of Derry’s early pioneers of punk Bam Bam & The Calling on a cover of that band’s “You Can’t Be Lonely Forever” ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzMUb3jk_4c) much praised by its composer Paul PJ McCartney. With airplay on the BBC, RTE, across local commercial stations and a DIY video for HYSH? gaining exalted mention in the pages of the Daily Mirror, the band continued to gain praise for attitude-filled live performances alongside the likes of A Plastic Rose, In An Instant and The Wood Burning Savages. In the throws of their demise due to various members' struggling with challenging 'life issues' (and just as things were getting interesting), the band released a final EP “Surveillance” in 2015. The honest, socially conscious lyrical content was back along with their signature ability to squeeze every last drop of energy and sneer out of every bar within their own brand of no-frills, alt-punk based rock n’roll.
