The Sometime Boys Brooklyn Founded in 2010 by vocalist Sarah Mucho and guitarist Kurt Leege, The Sometime Boys have quickly leapt to the forefront of the urban roots music scene in New York. Featuring succinct songwriting, they blend elements of bluegrass, country, folk, gospel and zydeco into a unique, refreshing Americana sound. Framing the elegance of MAC award winning vocalist Sarah Mucho, the music is an intricate canvas of violin, guitar and keyboard brushstrokes, propelled by a rhythm section that won’t quit. After recording their debut album, ‘Any Day Now’ in 2010, The Sometime Boys added Pete O’Connell on bass, Jay Cowit on drums, Rebecca Weiner Tompkins on violin to their lineup and mesmerized New York crowds with shows featuring both original material and gripping re-interpretations of covers from a wide variety of source material. One of the quintessential shows during their 2 year residency at Branded Saloon in Brooklyn, was a live rendition of the music to ‘The Big Lebowski’, as the movie streamed behind. In the late spring of 2012, The Sometime Boys released ‘Ice and Blood’, joined by Erik James on keyboards. Expanding on the sound established on ‘Any Day Now’, ‘Ice and Blood’ unfolded a much more expansive sound stage with powerful individual performances and sophisticated arrangements. Of particular note are ‘The Good People of Brooklyn’, a zydeco vehicle exploring the struggles and triumphs ‘good Brooklyn folk’; the heartrending country waltz ‘Drop By Drop’, characterized by New York Music Daily as “the single best song of the year so far”; the bluegrass and gospel inflected ‘Winter Solstice’ with its stunning stride piano closing and ‘Summer Solstice’, a Caribbean polyrhythmic folk rock song with triumphant vocals that falls back to earth with a Jerry Garcia-esque guitar solo. Not losing any steam, The Sometime Boys continued to ramp up their live schedule through the last 12 months , and have just completed the initial studio dates for their third album. Continuing to draw from diverse roots, the upcoming album hat tips everyone from Zeppelin to Doc Watson to Joni Mitchell in its sensibilities and songwriting. Sarah’s melodies are beyond sublime, and the band is always cooking.
