The programme traces this traditional funeral ritual in Ireland down through the centuries and places the tradition in an international context, with keening now re-appearing in new and altered contexts. Presented by Traditional Arts researcher and Sound Art practitioner Michelle Collins, the programme features contributions from James Wilce, author of Crying Shame, former Professor of Irish-language studies at UCD, Angela Bourke, singer Sara Grealish the Reverend Cait Brannigan, who leads Keening ceremonies in Ireland today and retired priest Fr Eddie O Conghaile.
