The Esoteric Gender The Esoteric Gender Reykjavik The Esoteric Gender started off with the encounter of Lisa Jamesdaughter, from Manchester, England, and Jean-Christophe Salaün, from Caen, Normandy, France in 2007 in a creative writing course at the University of Iceland. As they built a strong friendship, they realized their musical tastes were very similar – they both had a predilection for highly melodic electronica. For eighteen months following their encounter they shared their personal productions with each other, while working sporadically together on a few songs. It is not until the end of summer 2008 that they considered the option of forming a band and composing new material as well as rearranging older songs. As their portfolio was growing, they met Thomas Brorsen Smidt, a drummer from Denmark, and asked him to join the band to give life to their songs on stage. After a short concert in March 2009, for which they received very enthusiastic feedback, they found a new band member in the person of Gabriel Malenfant, from Quebec, who then became their guitarist. They have been lately working on putting up live shows as well as assembling a first album. Each of their concerts has so far brought enthusiasm amongst the audience, charmed by the ecclectic spectrum of their songs, alternating between dark and atmospheric downtempo and psychedelic dance and rock. Their main goal is to make quality pop songs, no matter which genre, both catchy and interesting.
