Tetsuji Matsuo

Tetsuji Matsuo is a drummer and composer.

Tetsuji started to play the drums in high school.
He joined in rock bands and played in Tokyo and Osaka area.
In 2005, He went to the US, and studied jazz and classical music at Whitworth University.

He is influenced from various music, jazz, classical, rock, electronica, and club music...etc.
Especially about the drums, he is influenced from Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, Jack DeJohnette, and Brian Blade. Also, He is influenced from Debussy and Ryuichi Sakamoto, and he started to play the piano when was studying in the US.

After came back to Japan in 2008, He started to make improvisational music by the piano and drums. Also he formed "improvisational abstract music duo" Black Mountain Conception with Ryo Okada (Baijidolphin), a guitarist.

Now, Tetsuji lives and composes music in his home, Hyogo prefecture in Japan.

高校生の時、友達の誘いでバンドでドラムを始める。
いくつかのロックバンドに在籍し関東、関西で活動する。
2005年渡米し、Whitworth Universityにて音楽を学ぶ。
ジャズ、クラシック、ロック、エレクトロニカ、クラブミュージック、民族音楽などいろいろな音楽から影響を受ける。

2008年帰国後、ピアノとドラムを中心とする即興音楽を制作するようになる。
セザンヌ、モネ、クレーなどの絵画への興味も音楽に反映させている。坂本龍一氏のラジオ番組、”RADIO SAKAMOTO”のオーディションで、２度楽曲がオンエアされる。

それに加え、 2014年、友人でありextrudersのギタリスト、岡田了と”BMC”(a.k.a. Black Mountain Conception)を結成、活動を開始する。
2018年、京都の音楽レーベル、Shrine.jpよりソロでのアルバム「Journey」を発表した。

現在は故郷の兵庫県赤穂市に在住し、音楽活動を続けている。
