The original .ogg recording was played back via VLC on my MacBook Pro on the counter in the kitchen while the dishwasher was running just a step away. I set my iPhone 5 down on a dish towel on the other end of the counter and recorded the sound of the room with Tascam PCM Recorder. This newly recorded audio file was then chopped up. I grabbed my favorite sequence and added my usual combinations of DSP. The interesting bit of this process for me was the reverb manipulation. Essentially, I end up simultaneously cross fading between several separate instances of Valhalla Shimmer and D16 Toraverb in multiple places in the signal chains while also automating the wet/dry levels for each. The slow fades let the underlying audio float around in a murky fog, occasionally drifting into patches less dense.
