TedEdlich Ted Edlich Roanoke Ted Edlich is a graduate of Union Theological Seminary in Virginia and Yale Divinity School. He has been a student of Indian Philosophy and Buddhist thought before his visit to India in 1984 when he visited the holy city of Varanasi and the sites of Buddha's Enlightment, Bhod Gaya, and Sarnath where Buddha began his teaching. Ted has practiced mindfulness at the Heart of the Blue Ridge Sangha in Roanoke, Virginia since 2008. He has been on retreat with Thich Nhat Hanh, the Vietnamese Buddhist leaderwho was nominated by Martin Luther King, Jr. for the Nobel Peace Prize and the founder of the movement for engaged Buddhism. He has studied under with Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D.,, the founder of the Mind Body Stress Reduction program at the University of Massachusetts Hospital. His interests extend to mindfulness in education, health care, and nonprofit leadership. As a Licensed Professional Counselor he has introduced his clients to mindfulness as part of their therapy. As the President and CEO of Total Action for Progress for four decades, he has introduced the practice of mindfulness to both staff and clients. Ted has led a consortium of organizations in creating an annual Mindfulness: Strategies, Practice, and Application Conference bringing national and international leaders of mindfulness to Southwest Virginia. Ted is a true believer in social justice, someone who turns his belief into words and actions. He is truly a force of nature, and he is always a force for good. Through his career as its leader, Total Action for Progress has consistently ranked among the nation's best and most innovative Community Action Agencies. He has been one of Community Action's pre-eminent national leaders. He has had a significant positive impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and their communities.
