Taso Comanescu Los Angeles, CA Taso Comanescu is a young guitarist in the Los Angeles area. His debut solo classical record, “Epitaphios” (2011), features the music of Tansman, Rotolo and Theodorakis. A new solo recording entitled "Renaissance | Baroque" (2015) features transcriptions originally for lute, viheula, theorbo and baroque guitar. During the 2014 season Comanescu gave his symphonic debut with the West Coast Symphony performing Vivaldi's Lute Concerto in D. In 2010 Comanescu formed an eclectic ensemble with internationally acclaimed tenor Charles Castronovo. Their program, entitled Charles Castronovo’s Italian Songbook, consists of popular Neapolitan, Sicilian and Italian folk songs. Recent engagements include Irvine's Barclay Theater, Atlanta's Spivey Hall, New York City's 54 Below and a critically acclaimed debut at Los Angeles' Zipper Hall. 2012 marked the release of the group’s debut recording, “Dolce Napoli: The Neopolitan Songs”. Taso studied under renowned American guitar virtuoso Christopher Parkening and Grammy award winning guitarist Scott Tennant. Comanescu's various other pursuits in music include folk music, rock n' roll and music history. He has been a member of the music faculty at Pepperdine University since 2011.
