When I sit down to make it, I prefer using blue ballpoint on yellow legal.
I double-space it to provide clarity and room for an often-aggressive cross off.
With a fairly intimidating to-do, I begin my journey early Sunday morning.
First stop, Starbucks.
I am looking to deplete my holiday gift card.
I order the grande house coffee with a pumpkin cream cheese muffin,
And get my first cross off of the day.
Next stop, Home Depot.
I gotta get a 20ft extension cord.
I gotta stop off at Best Buy and find the appropriate dongle for my external.
I gotta return a defective night-light to Ikea.
Probably grab some Swedish meatballs for lunch.
Gonna hit the Old Navy on the way, grab me a three pack of underwear.
Do I need socks?
A poem to be read after collapsing to grass,
And placing hands over eyes to make a tiny hand mask.
Gonna hit BevMo on the way and take advantage of my club card.
A poem to be read with a hand full of glue,
Cause this list is long it’s the mega, TO-DO!!
Bring us back to feed,
In blades of uncut grass,
Crushed by the dried out branch,
Of a disease licked tree,
A hollow body for the bees,
Arms spread to warm the tongues,
Of chanting tribal dance,
For clouds to break and laugh,
Their tears on bone-dry ground,
And watch the evil drown,
Bed Bath & Beyond is next on the list.
Gotta keep a focus going in.
I often get sidetracked at Bed Bath.
Count them like sheep
Into the lot they go stumbling,
Look at that one
Hopping from spot to spot,
It seems they are glued
To the lines of the lot.
Keep reading and counting
Observe every move,
Some heading east,
Some heading west,
In their new colorful shoes.
Some with arms out
Some are tucked in,
That one is flopping about
Like a fish that can’t swim.
Listen, can you hear?
Car remotes they are clicking.
For cars that aren’t there,
What are they thinking?
The clicking continues
It’s like a disease,
It's building and building
Like a swarm of machines.
The beeping and chirping
Honking and pops,
Please read a bit faster
End the list it must stop!
They’re moving so quickly
Without cars to depart,
Dear God, help them please!
It will tear them apart!
The list it must end
They’re losing their minds,
Without cars to depart
They’re just trapped on those lines.
Watering holes that bloom,
Nourishment in the dark,
A deer and peacock march,
To drink beside the moon,
A zebra and wondering nudes, nudes, nudes.
Burns in metallic soil,
Beaks locked in plastic net,
Corporate calls in jets,
Acquisitions to consume,
Moments before it all goes boom, boom, boom.
They reject today by returning to yesterday.
Forgot light bulbs at Home Depot.
Guess I’ll pop into Walgreens.
Gonna grab a pack of 60watt soft white.
Should probably call first.
Ah, there it was, the very last stop.
Please, PLEASE!! not another word,
the whole list is crossed off.
