"Would you look at that... a pine forest! Ah, that takes me back. The last time I saw one this large was years and years ago." Gabby furrows his brow in thought. "Rightly... uhhhm... things weren't always this bad. Sure, conditions are terrible and sad for most of us now-- including you, I expect-- but back then we were still quite successful. Of course, when you've got things like those Moving Pictures that patrons started mentioning on occasion on their way out... and especially this new-- well, or at least I think it's new-- invention that allows you to broadcast radio waves much much farther than before... Point is, you don't really have to leave your hometown to see a spectacle, or your living room, if you're content with imagining it. ...but I digress."
The chain on his left wrist rattles dully as he re-positions himself, lifting off the floor with his left hand, swinging his left leg on top of his right leg, then sits down again.
"Things were good back then. We were all treated much kinder, and there were more of us. But then, the fact that returns started decreasing meant worse pay, and with that less-than-satisfied workers. ...Eventually I was the only veteran from my troupe left working for our circus. I've had other partners before, sure, and they were fine and all, but it's never been the same... togetherness, if that makes sense.
"...A few times, I've been asked if I'd like to get a more unique suit, since I'm the only clown left, and-- well, let's face it, I'm *sure* I'm a bit out-of-style by now. But I refuse. It just doesn't feel right."
"To be honest, I didn't expect I'd ever be this miserable working for this place. I used to enjoy it so much, you've no idea. ...I miss Tracy, and William, and-- well, all my other friends back then, from the troupe or otherwise.
"...You know what, I think that, when I help you escape, I'll just come with you. There's nothing left for me here, anyway... I think I really just needed to hear myself say it, that things are awful, before I'd really admit it to myself."
Shtoopidboi did me a solid and fixed up the chords from the original Gabliacci that felt iffy. Not only that, but he basically gave the entire bass line an overhaul. I don't much care for the dissonant chords he added to the melody at the end of his final arrangement, but I love the bass's downward prog that he put in right beforehand. Reminds me of a Rainy Night for some reason-- fits right in with ol' Gabby. Anyways, it was a huge favor to me. Anyways. He might think the alterations to the melody that I did to make it more like the original feel kind of sucky, but it"S MY OSNG HARUMPH >>;TTT
