The Future of Higher Ed = The Age of Partnerships - SXSWedu 2013 by SXSWedu published on 2013-03-07T20:35:24Z Education is a very large market – the second largest sector in the economy behind health care. It is also a market that has been almost entirely in "public" hands. Only about 10% of the overall $4.5 trillion global education market is private. Within Higher Education, we're on the cusp of a revolution to redefine that. After nearly a thousand years following essentially the same business model - "the sage on the stage" - higher ed will be transformed by demographic shifts, technological innovations, globalization, governments' fiscal austerity policies and the challenges of training workers for the 21st century "knowledge economy". The non-profit sector alone cannot meet these challenges. The private sector alone cannot meet these challenges. While both sectors have oft been at loggerheads, the future of higher ed requires partnerships to guarantee student outcomes. The rapid growth in such partnerships holds promise of answering many of the challenges that lie ahead.
