Policy Wonks, Public Leaders and Smart Reform - SXSWedu 2013 by SXSWedu published on 2013-03-08T23:31:50Z Sweeping reform requires strong leadership from key decision makers, particularly at the state and local level. State elected officials, mayors, and superintendents oversee the key financial and strategic levers that can enable reform to take root and spread throughout school systems – or wither under the weight of cumbersome policies and restrictions. Additionally, the political realities of education reform require tremendous political will and artful policy solutions that meet the needs of students and stakeholders alike. The current policy dynamics also also create interesting bedfellows, with political fault lines that don't follow the a neat party divide. Our panel will feature three prominent policy leaders from the state and local level who have led some of the most notable reform efforts to date. They’ll reflect on their experience, offer lessons to policy leaders, and share their vision for the future of education reform across the country.
