•SUSAN TONEY
A scholar of the performing and creative arts, Susan Toney is a singer/songwriter, recording and performing artist, actor and author
addressing the past, her life’s journey of past loves and losses, triumphs and defeats, and welcoming the future with hope. Susan moved west from Oklahoma to Los Angeles in the 1990’s. Prolifically writing songs and performing at venues and festivals throughout Southern California, her song “Just Don’t Mention Love” landed in Miramax’s film, Little City, in 1997.
In 2003, her career and her life were nearly cut short in a hit and run, rollover car accident, throwing her out of the car completely. Through the grace of her faith, sheer will and determination, Toney recovered post surgery and returned to her music.
During the recording her debut album, “Strange Child,” Toney was presented with another obstacle, pancreatic cancer. While receiving treatment and subsequently having her pancreas removed, she finished and released her album in 2007 on her own label, Strange Child Records. Susan met these nearly tragic adversities with a faithful heart, unbridled spirit, and a strength
that rushed through her veins. She recognized the tragic accident and pancreatic cancer as an ultimate part of God’s plan and a saving Grace. Susan found renewed faith, hope and determination to further pursue the very reason she is here—to use her voice to help others.
In 2014, Susan Toney found recognition when her songs, “The Trail Of Light And Dark” (Top 40, Adult Contemporary) and “Missing Me (Remix)” (Top 30, Adult Contemporary Indicator) made it on the Billboard charts, off of her album “Love Is The Cure-The Essential Collection,” which showcases her fusion of Pop, Country, Americana, Blues and Rock.
June 26, 2020 brings Susan Toney’s third full length release, “Headed For Love”, an introspective collection of songs steeped in the trials and tribulations of being human. Recorded at Crescent Heights Digital, West Hollywood by grammy award winning producer, Bob Tucker, “Headed For Love” is 14 tracks bridging elements of Rock, Pop, Jazz, Blues and Gospel,
supported by luminaries Jane Getz on piano/keyboards (Charles Mingus, John Lennon, Herbie Hancock), Bob Tucker on electric guitar/bass and producer (India-Arie, Temptations, Tupac Shakur), Arno Lucas on percussions (Rickie Lee Jones, Luther Vandross, Better Midler), and
Tom Walsh on drums (Joe Cocker, Supertramp, Tina Turner). “Starlight,” the single off the album with go to radio May 22, 2020.
