SUPER7AIYAN is a five-piece instrumental band based in Galway, Ireland. The band was formed at the end of July 2012, when Sean Leonard and Vincent Hughes, who were both attempting to form separate instrumental bands with pretty much all the same members (both potential bands featured Brian O'Brien on guitar, Dara Dermody on bass and Oisín Tohak on drums), decided to see what would happen if they were to try to combine the two. Brian and Oisín were friends of Sean and Vincent's who had played with Vincent during his time with Geotrope, and Dara was a long-term friend of Vincent's who had played with him in the majority of his rather short-lived musical projects before Geotrope. Everyone brings their own influences to the table and has some say in the construction of new material, often contributing a great deal to the process and adding an extra layer of character to the overall sound, though the majority of the material (especially the earlier material) is constructed around a template proposed by Sean. In October 2012, having spent less than two and a half months together, SUPER7AIYAN entered Witless 2013, earning a place in the finals, which will take place in February 2013. Just a few weeks after entering Witless, the band entered the Keary's Battle of the Bands in Mike Keary's pub, Loughrea. They won a place in the finals, where they proceeded to come first, winning three days of recording time in Silver Hammer Studio, Loughrea. The band is hoping to record an EP in the near future, which will likely be entitled 'Trunk(s)'.
