They would have been played constantly on TV in the days leading up to an attack. 2020-08-21T03:26:41Z Comment by Steven O’Brien @user-995716345: Like, what is your standard for a reasonable response? - "Oh, you used five paid tracks without paying for them, but you say you didn't realize they were paid? Well okay, that's fine, nbd, you keep using them for free. Oh, an unrelated donation? Thanks! You're so generous." 2020-07-28T04:52:33Z Comment by Steven O’Brien @user-995716345: I didn't accuse them of theft in that email. When they emailed me, saying that they thought the tracks were free and then OFFERED TO PAY ME, I said I assumed they'd made an honest mistake and offered them a 60% discount. I thought we were both being fairly amicable about the situation until he responded with legal threats and accusations of fraud and extortion (over $60!). This whole situation is ridiculous. 2020-07-28T04:51:38Z Comment by Steven O’Brien @user-995716345: And as for letting "others know what they are getting themselves into.", feel free to contact literally any other YouTuber who has used either my paid or Creative Commons music and see what they say about their experience with me. 2020-07-13T16:59:26Z Comment by Steven O’Brien @user-995716345: Regarding the Content ID: That's just not correct. I offered them the choice between using YouTube's automated system to remove the music from their videos, or to pay the invoice so they could continue using the music. I was very clear about this to them in an email. They chose to pay immediately without even responding to my email. I only threatened to send a DMCA takedown if they continued to dispute my Content ID claims (by claiming I don't actually own my music), because I literally have no other choice of recourse with YouTube once they do that. I gave them six months to resolve this before ever taking the Content ID route, and it is never something I want to do. 2020-07-13T16:59:10Z Comment by Steven O’Brien @user-995716345: It doesn't matter what their perception of the situation was. The tracks they used were never available for free use. I would have eventually sent them an invoice anyway regardless of whether they contacted me first or not. I don't really care about their vague, supposed "$1,000 out of appreciation", that's not how I work. You use a track, you pay the price that's listed (which in this case is $29.99). I'm very sorry if this hurt their feelings. 2020-07-13T16:58:21Z Comment by Steven O’Brien @user-995716345: "Given that you're coming clean about this, I'll assume it was an honest mistake, so let's just say $59.98 for the two most used tracks and we'll call it a day (but please only use the tracks you've paid for going forward). Does that sound good to you?" - That's what I said to them. 2020-07-13T16:58:14Z
