Steelism People may talk about The Drawing Room being the soundtrack to imaginary films, imaginary adventures, imaginary romances but they’d be wrong. Step into The Drawing Room, home to salon and seance, habitat to intellect and magick. Join Steelism as they conjure distant lands and alternate realities, summoning the cosmic powers of music to combine past, present and future. Follow Nashville’s wizards of nickel-wound vibrations, guitarist Jeremy Fetzer and pedal steel player Spencer Cullum Jr. as they invoke the ancient alchemies of rock n roll. Follow their sleight of hand, as they take you on a journey beyond the lairs of soul-slinging card sharps and smoky jazz-cat flats on the outer realms of the imagination. The Drawing Room Vol. 1, released on July 10th, 2015, was recorded with engineer Jeremy Ferguson (Lee Bains III, Turbo Fruits, Tristen) and a cast of the Music City’s heaviest underground hitters. It is the first installment in a self-produced EP series being released on Steelism’s own Intoxicating Sounds imprint, exhibiting the sublime melodies and surreal songcraft of Nashville’s hippest instrumental outfit. The follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album 615 to FAME, The Drawing Room Vol. 1 finds the duo leading their merry pranksters into uncharted territory. The EP is a collection of jet set groovers for modern movers, an essential addendum to the pair’s work with the finest of Nashville’s nouvelle vague including Caitlin Rose, Andrew Combs and Rayland Baxter. On The Drawing Room Vol. 1 strings swell like an ocean of Paul Mauriat recordings on the title track and an avalanche of Lalo Schifrin inspired funk careens from “the Informant. The mystical motorik of Neu! meets the country-funk traditions that made Area Code 615 an essential on “Tintagel”. “The Tube” sends you rushing beyond the beyond,a majestic ride evoking both the London subway system and the experimental surf films of George Greenough. The beefy drums and horror movie organs of “The Serge” -- co-written with power-pop patriarch and Raconteur Brendan Benson -- ripple with a tough guy tension that would make Robert Mitchum think twice. The Drawing Room is not the score to imaginary adventures -- The Drawing Room is the score to your adventures. The Drawing Room is the soundtrack to your romance. These things will manifest the moment you press play, the moment that you enter The Drawing Room. The action is here, the love is now and a world of sonic delights awaits you. The Drawing Room is not just a place, not just a head space, but an entryway to the infinite. Let Steelism show you a world beyond.
