Jack Wright solo synth by springgardenmusic published on 2018-07-17T19:50:23Z I’m playing a 30-year-old Yamaha PSR-31 synthesizer someone left at the house, probably thinking it trashed beyond redemption. I repaired it easily and discovered the pleasure of randomly and quickly switching functions in midstream. I’d never played a synth before, so, bored with the sax (as often) this is a new experience. This recording is the result of two weeks of exploration. At first I was having fun with an instrument that allows me to be silly, compared to the saxophone, thinking I’d quickly come to the end of interesting things to do. Then I found more to do, creating goofy phrases by reacting quickly, adding a pedal that simply cuts off the sound, with a bit of ghost left behind, maneuvering my right forearm to crash on keys, etc. Each time I play, new surprises.
