SPLINTrd Greg Baker SPLINTrd exists in a place where genres slip down into the cracks between sounds; a place where rules and circuits are both there to be bent. A place where beats are broken and melted down into glitchy velvet electronic textures as light breaks through the cloak of night. SPLINTrd is king in a kingdom of his own creation, where the ethereal meets the visceral head-on. The beautiful and familiar collide with the fearful and unknown, as stripped back soundscapes sit side by side with twisted electro, downtempo bleeps full of warmth and joy nestle happily with bass heavy dub techno. Nowhere is the splendour of SPLINTrd’s eclectic and bittersweet world more evident than on his stunning 2013 debut album “Staring Out Of Windows”. The roots of SPLINTrd’s melting pot of influences can be traced back to the underground parties and warehouse raves which a young Gregory Baker enjoyed in the closing years of the twentieth century. Ravenously absorbing a wide range of dj sets from acid techno to psytrance, house to jungle to breaks, the wheels were set in motion. 1210’s were borrowed, a bag of vinyl was acquired, and young Greg locked himself away until he could mix. Soon, going by the name of Gregory B, gigs in London, the North, and Europe followed. Soon tiring of hard house, the allure of fat wonky breakbeat drew Greg to different quarters. However, after several years playing regularly throughout London and the South, at the end of the noughties, Greg grew jaded of being in the thick of the club scene and decided to focus his energies in the studio.
