Christopher W. Shaw On U.S. Postal Service & 2020 Election by Sojourner Truth with Margaret Prescod published on 2020-08-25T16:32:20Z Today on Sojourner Truth: As the Republican Party's Convention kicked off, Donald Trump used the moment to yet again tout the false claim that voting my mail will cause massive fraud. This, as Trump-appointee Louis DeJoy (the Postmaster General in his appearance before the House Oversight Committee) had difficulty answering basic questions about the Post Office and claimed that he had nothing to do with the alarming slow-downs and cut-backs in postal service. The Republican Party has long sought to privatize the U.S. Postal Service. Meanwhile, some progressives see some solutions to solving what is admittedly a fiscal crisis faced by the Post Office, including postal banking. Our guest is Christopher W. Shaw, the author of "Money, Power, and the People: The American Struggle to Make Banking Democratic and Preserving the People's Post Office." Also, while Democrats claim the importance of the vote of suburban women, many of whom are mothers and or caring for elderly family members, what policies are they proposing to assist caregivers? How much is the work of unpaid caregivers worth? Should unpaid caregivers receive a wage? Our guests are Peggy O'Mara and Catherine Myers. Peggy O'Mara is an independent journalist who edits and publishes peggyomara.com. She was the editor and publisher of Mothering Magazine for over 30 years. Catherine Myers is the Executive Director of the Family and Home Network, which helps families spend generous amounts of time together by offering affirmation, information and advocacy.
