”Mightily impressive and hugely original rock from the cool end of Americana" – Maverick Mag, UK.
This Hudson Valley band has an exotic instrumental arsenal and songs ranging from dusty Americana ballads to huge Pink Floydesque cinematic anthems.
Formed in Sleepy Hollow, New York over a decade ago, the Slambovians pioneered the now huge Americana genre while staying on the fringes of the music industry. Winning support from indie radio and press from the outset, fans have fueled their career to international status. Likened to an array of artists including the Waterboys, Jethro Tull, The Decemberists, or a quirkier Tom Petty, their quirky Americana and Zen-like anthems evoke a universe entirely of their own making...
The Slambovians charm from the first note - led by visionary songwriter Joziah Longo with founding members Sharkey McEwen(guitar, mandolin), and painterly contributions of Tink Lloyd (accordion, cello, flute, etc. The 2022 touring band features additional players Rj McCarty on bass/keyboards and drummer Matthew Abourezk(drums, percussion). This is a band that connects with the audience on a tribal level… absolutely ‘Slambovian’.
"A Very Unusual Head" is the band's 6th studio album, out January 2022 on Storm King Records.
Long-anticipated, "A Very Unusual Head"is the band's 6th studio album. "A crazy, amazing machine of music", it was released in January 2022 with an additional UK/EU release due out May 2022 on Talking Elephant Records. Recorded over the last 4 years in 5 studios and 2 countries, the album is a real Slambovian tribal project with contributions from many friends and a few 'special guests'! "A Very Unusual Head" pays tribute to the great 'outside the box' minds of science - "Force of Nature (Stephen Hawking's Lament)" and the arts - "Solve It All Dāli". Lead singer/songwriter Longo also challenges accepted philosophy/theologies that have led humanity to its current state with the Python-esque song "Brilliantly Dumb", featuring an ethereal vocal performance by New York singer/songwriter Dar Williams and contributions of mandolin and sax by Anthony Thistlethwaite (founding member of The Waterboys). The album's humour waylays any 'doom and gloom' with a confidence that though humanity seems to have strayed a bit from the path, we can find it again if we only "Step Outta Time" and "Look Around"!
