Sigrun Stella Sigrun Stella Bessason Toronto Sigrún Stella is an Icelandic/Canadian singer-songwriter based in Toronto. Recently, she has been nominated for vocalist of the year at the People’s Choice Awards in Iceland where her song Sideways is a number one hit. Influenced by artists such as Brandi Carlile, Mazzy Star, and Joni Mitchell, her music is moody and intelligent, with strong folk and jazz influences framing a powerful but sensitive voice. Sigrún's music has achieved extensive radio play in Iceland as well as on the CBC and CKUA In Canada. In addition to playing her own shows, Sigrún has opened for such artists as: Of Monsters and Men, Lay Low, Kinnie Starr, and Svavar Knútur. Aside from writing her own songs, she also writes for independent record label Hospital Records in the UK, Songs in The Key of Knife. Currently she is engaged in a number of collaborations including UK artist Etherwood and Bulgarian/Canadian composer Todor Kobakov. Music by Sigrún has been placed in numerous feature films including The Saver, which has been nominated for Canadian film industry awards. Her songs also appear in the feature film Stay, The Cardinal (Canadian tv series), Jump Darling, and Sisterhood (Icelandic tv series). Born in Winnipeg, Sigrún grew up In Iceland and now calls both countries her home. She is looking forward to releasing an album in Canada soon and playing at the Iceland Airwaves festival In Reykjavík this fall.
