Shorthand for distance Shorthand for distance Berlin The duo Shorthand for Distance was formed in 2011 by Didio Pestana (guitar, keyboards, vocals) and Eirik Sördal (guitar, vocals) after they ran into each other midway between Portugal and Iceland – in Neukölln, Berlin, more specifically. They play original compositions. The music may be described as a minimal mixture of American folk, German Schlagermusik, Icelandic Rímur and Portuguese pimba (not necessarily in that order). The notes and the lyrics may convey upbeat melancholia and downbeat optimism, silly seriousness and serious silliness, all depending on how you look at it.
