So where were we in the Story...
I had paralysed fingers after the concert au Glaz’art, july 2008.
Nevertheless did I teach a vocal workshop organised by Etel Nemenyi that autumn in Paris with 3 concerts, where the class sang with me, included. This was an interesting concept because Etel randomly spread the class through my audience with the result that the entire audience was singing the choruses with us.
To then gather tHE mEDIATOR from across France and London to play at l’OPUS in Paris. The 5th of December 2008.
Little did I know that influenza had already struck… Or well, the exhaustion, the aching all over, the dizzy spells could all have been signs had I been looking, but I was busy, busy, busy…
As soon as that “l’OPUS gig” was over I was planning a recording session with El Gringo. He was into rap and so he was like I'll engineer your album and you’ll feature on mine… I agreed!
Did “Picking Up Dirt”… all by myself :-( … rAP iS nO fUN wITHOUT a CrEw... And then, flu and all, I started putting guides down, of which you’ll find three - “Feel Free”, "Mother" & “Celebrate”. You program a supersimple beat to serve as click, put down the guitar, sing the song, guide done. I wrote 3 songs using chord progressions Stephane Hailon was playing. So I invited him to come and put down some guitar on “Celebrate”, “çA Fait Du Bien” and “Say Your Name”.
Kristel (Yona) Dobat and Alero came over and we spend 5 days in Angouleme that winter. I brought food, St Emillion, herb, mattresses…. El Gringo pressed R, really that is all he did, and off we went. What more can I say… I had flu & the engineer was watching movies all night long!
So I THINK WE DID QUITE WELL OR RATHER I THINK THAT IF YOU HAVE A DECENT SONG AND INSPIRED MUSICIANS & VOCALISTS THEN PROVIDING YOU GIVE EVERYONE THE SPACE, RESPECT AND TRUST THEY NEED PLUS A BIT MORE THAN BASIC COMFORT then YOU WILL ALWAYS GET A DECENT RESULT…
Thus when you have a jazz singer with the experience of a life-time you thank your lucky stars for that quick and deep dive into the world of Soul! Thank you Kristel Dobat!!! And when you have your little sister who knows you inside out and can follow your musical madness up side down whilst sleeping… Thank you Alero!!! Unforgettable times :-o
Like all my other stuff what a shame it did not get finished.
This Time I Was Almost Finished…
I collapsed and was put on Oxycontin by a doctor. The only problem was that this doctor thought I must, like Miles and Ray, like my smack ??? So he put me on a dose so high that after 3 days I was addicted. I started taking a decreased dose of medication from day 3 and it took me 8 whole months to get clean. Decreasing my dose by 5mg every three days. I was later told by my loving and faithful partner that I spend 8 months in the state of cold turkey, including hallucinations, more than morbid thought and being bed bound for month. Totally OUT!
Next month’s free download will reveal HOW I GOT THROUGH THOSE HORRIBLE 8 MONTHS…
