Self Fantasy makes songs soundscapes, music, noise, quiet. Sometimes nothing. He plays bass, guitar, drums, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, dobro, bowbro and somehow sings. If there was one of him for every instrument, he wouldn’t need a band. And that’s how it began.
Now he collaborates with other musicians and composers in making songs and sound experiments.
All Self Fantasy music is improvised. It is created, written, and recorded without previous practice or arrangement. Demos, like notes in a journal, incomplete projects, the songs are full of unique energy, and flaws. Like a drip of paint in a picture, they are part of the process. There is a nostalgia in this—not wanting a timeless song, but rather a very specific one. And there is no need to be perfect, for that song has past, and it will never be played like that again. Like the first time. There are so many new songs to scribble and sing. If any of these may be re-recorded in the future, will they be more perfect then? I do hope so.
A self fantasy is a dream and a delusion, a unicorn and a rainbow and a body on the bank of the river.
Mostly, it is a love song.
I will rewrite this tomorrow.
Listen to the snow.
