Few DJ’s can say they’ve spent more than half their life honing the skills of their craft and contributing in a meaningful way back to their scene. Yet at 29, this is exactly what Sebastian Wild has done. From his sell-out Nitrate events that influenced a generation, to nation-wide tours, international supports plus festival and international appearances, his career has been incredibly diverse.
Well-known throughout New Zealand & Melbourne’s underground electronic music scenes, Sebastian has crafted a unique sound rooted in progressive & melodic techno. He specialises in building beautiful, yet driving soundscapes with unsurpassed technical mastery that skilfully use scratching and hardware effects to deliver distinctive sets with a personalised touch. The core of his philosophy and musical ethos is that true DJing is an art form and a journey – extended sets see him flow seamlessly from progressive and techno to drum’n’bass, breaks and back.
Sebastian continues to go from strength to strength, recently gracing the decks on the Funky Beach for Boom Festival 2016 in Portugal. This was followed by numerous sets throughout Lisbon at some of the most renowned nightlife hotspots. Back in Australia, he’s appeared at S.A.S.H. for a four-hour set in the main room of Home Nightclub in Sydney alongside Darkbeat head-honcho Rollin Connection. In Melbourne, he’s joined line-ups alongside artists such as Guy J, Sebastien Leger, Anthony Pappa, Henry Saiz, Quivver, Darin Epsilon, Sebo K, Monika Kruse & Radio Slave. This adds to an already impressive list that includes Hernan Cattaneo, Carl Cox, Nic Fanciulli, Fritz Kalkbrenner, Blond:ish, Eelke Kleijn, Stanton Warriors, M.A.N.D.Y, Sharam, Jody Wisternoff, D-Nox, King Unique, Luis Junior, Hybrid plus many more.
In 2010 Sebastian launched Half Wild in NZ to expose talented underground DJs pushing boundaries. He took the brand on three nation-wide tours before relocating to Melbourne in 2012. Inspired by his experiences at Burning Man in 2013-15 where he has been privileged enough to play several times, he revitalised the brand in Melbourne with the sole aim of bring unique international acts and brands to the cities vibrant nightlife. The first event has already been a sell-out success, hosting the infamous Burning Man theme camp, DISTRIKT.
With the same ethos but global approach, in 2015, he launched the Global Transmission Podcast with seven worldwide residents and the goal of uniting local underground scenes across the globe. The series now regularly attracts thousands of listeners by showcasing the world’s most forward thinking progressive music, played by underground artists on the cutting edge.
Over the next few years, Sebastian’s sights are set firmly on entering the production realm, turning 15-years of experience in the booth to ideas in the studio and adding more live elements to his sets. Watch this space as this electronic artist continues to spread his wings!
