PETER KAZARAS as Loge by Seattle Opera published on 2014-05-29T21:40:32Z Peter Kazaras has been a mainstay of Seattle Opera since 1985. As leading tenor, character tenor, Wagner tenor, stage director, and Director of the Young Artists Program, Kazaras’s wit, warmth, and talent have made vast contributions to the company over the years. He even starred as a hilarious Duchess of Krackenthorp from “La fille du régiment” in 2013. One of Kazaras’s greatest roles was surely Loge, the devious fire god in “Das Rheingold,” which he sang in 1995, 2000, 2001, and 2005. Here, from the 2005 performance, Kazaras as Loge tells the gods and giants of his quest to find an appropriate substitute for Freia: “I asked everywhere there is life—in water, earth, and air. I asked wherever breath stirred and seeds grew: ‘What does man value above the love of a woman?’ But wherever there’s life and breath they laughed at my question. In water, earth and air, no man will forgo a woman—or love.” Robert Spano conducts the orchestra of Seattle Opera. Photo by Alan Alabastro.
