India, having some of the highest antimicrobial resistance rates in the world, is the focal point for an action plan in developing countries, known as the “Chennai Declaration” and in some ways is leading the world. Dr Ghafur is also a consultant in infectious diseases and clinical microbiology at the Apollo Hospitals in India.
