In the honor of Ingegerd the Cassette Queen, we've made 12 tracks about Track Tape, recorded on Track Tapes only - with the exception of three songs. This is track number one.

The brief story of Ingegerd the Cassette Queen:

Some decades ago, in the early 80’s in Malmö, Sweden, there was an ambitious woman with pockets the size of our appetite for sushi. Her name was Ingegerd, and she had inherited the equivalent of roughly $9 million from her father who had invested in real estate. Now, Ingegerd didn’t want to follow in her father’s footsteps so the year prior to his death he had helped her start her own company: Track Tape.

Manufacturing her own cassette tape was an idea she got from people high up in the TM (Transcendental Meditation) movement, led by the guru Maharishi Mahesh who had attracted a following from popstars such as The Beatles.

Track Tape started off with launching a hyped marketing campaign portraying sumo wrestlers and Japanese people angered by “The Swedish cassette tape that dares to challenge the Japanese giants”. It gained a lot of attention and was a major marketing success.

So, there they were, getting a bunch of orders having made promises of great quality and a five year warranty.

Two major issues:
1. A tax on manufacturing cassette tapes had just been implemented.
2. The Track Tape cassette didn’t yet exist

You see, Ingegerd had fired the one person at the company possessing the knowledge needed to manufacture the tape where the actual sound is stored. They did, however, somehow manage to rush a first batch together.

But. Quality sucked and Track Tape - with an oh so aesthetically pleasing cover btw - didn’t get a real second chance.

It was the beginning of the end for poor Ingegerd.

However little or much thought she put into this whole Track Tape project, you gotta give it to her for trying something so bold.
