Critical Conversations Lecture by Dr Jacqueline Millner by Sarah McEwan published on 2016-03-21T05:32:19Z This lecture by Dr Jacqueline Millner focused on critical conversations in contemporary art. It was open to all artists wanting to understand how to critically engage with ideas emerging in their arts practice. The session looked at how you can incorporate this form of reflection in the process of your making to reach a more rigorous dialogue. This event was held to complement the exhibition RE//CONSTRUCTING in the HR Gallop Gallery at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga Campus, for International Women's Day 2016. This lecture was presented in partnership between The Cad Factory, Charles Sturt University, Sydney University and the Contemporary Art and Feminism Network. Dr Jacqueline Millner is Associate Dean Research at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney, where she also lectures on contemporary art theory and history. Together with Catriona Moore and Jo Holder, Jacqueline established the Contemporary Art and Feminist research cluster, a response to the groundswell in engagement and curiosity about feminism’s role in the development of contemporary art and its current relevance to art-making and analysis. Millner completed studies in law, political science, and visual arts, before consolidating a career as an arts writer and academic specialising in the history and theory of contemporary art. She has published widely on contemporary Australian and international art in key anthologies, journals and catalogues of national and international institutions. Her books include 'Conceptual Beauty: Perspectives on Australian Contemporary Art' (2010, Sydney: Artspace), 'Australian Artists in the Contemporary Museum' (with Jennifer Barrett, London: Ashgate, 2014) and 'Fashionable Art' (with Adam Geczy, London: Bloomsbury, 2015). She co-convenes the research group Contemporary Art and Feminism at the University of Sydney. Genre Learning
