«Sansara» was founded in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg by some like-minded friends at the end of the ‘90s. Success came quickly: the band was soon collaborating with Russia’s biggest music labels: Soyuz, Real Records, Nikitin, and Navigator. The musicians were also invited with equal speed to the nation’s most important festivals: Maxidrom, Nashestvie, Picnic Afisha, Stereoleto, Red Rocks and others.
Sansara’s debut album was produced by Vladimir Shakhrin, a leading figure in the country’s rock scene. Tours followed – from one end of Russia to the other – yet these were still the earliest, even «pre-historic» years!
A brand-new period commenced in 2012 with the appearance of «Igla» (Needle), an LP marking Sansara’s fifteenth anniversary. It included twelve songs, two of which were important collaborations. Sansara’s guests were Ilya Lagutenko (of the hugely influential Mumiy Troll collective) and local legend Sergey Bobunets (of Smyslovie Gallutsinatsii). The resulting release was showcased in Moscow’s Afisha magazine, while the live unveiling happened in Tele-Club, one of the Urals’ biggest venues.
The designer of a new album cover is Vlad Derevyannykh. He was also the one, who worked on a previous two. He earned respect and rapture of a both sides - fans and professional designers, they all admire his talent. Last year this cover was included in the short-list of a famous «Cannes Lions» International Festival of Creativity.
Speaking of «Igla,» Sansara’s lead singer Alexander Gagarin has said: «‘Igla’ to us seemed like an album woven from Tweets, from many fleeting thoughts and symbols. The resulting music turned out to be both direct and robust, though. We certainly worked with the speed of Twitter!» The Russian press agreed – and approved: «This is the band’s best LP ever, free of any doubts regarding how to combine styles. The group just took a ’needle’ and red thread of their own, pricking fans’ hearts and sewing them together with bona fide, unique rock music.»
In the winter of 2013, Sansara (again with Smyslovie Gallutsinatsii) were residents of the prestigious S.G.T.R.K. Media-LAB, an association of different cultural organizations, production-, design-, and PR-teams. Currently, the band has combined its efforts with Mumiy Troll, specifically through MT’s Pacific Coast festival, «Vladivostok Rocks». Crowds of the Far East were utterly charmed by Sansara: «We’ll never forget them!»
