Sang - Freud
SANG-FREUD was founded by Jonathan Lisinski and B.J. Fish in the 90's, when they decided to get together and write the heaviest, HARDCORE tunes they could think of. The two had previously jammed in high school and the idea was to take it to the next level. Lisinski contacted drummer Vinnie Giovanazzo who had also jammed with them back in the day and found bassist, J.R. in his first year university history class. And the rest is history! (A long, complicated history with J.R. and Vinnie both having left the band long ago, to be replaced several times since...)
Their music has been well received by those who have heard it or seen the band perform live. They have been showcased on university radio stations in Guelph, Kitchener and Toronto, including 103.3 fm, and 98.7 fm. The most common reactions to the band have been exclamations like "WICKED!", "HIGH ENERGY".."WOW", "AMAZING. "Out of all the Raw talent out there. You guys are the rawest!!" was a personal favorite of the band's...
Sang-Freud has written many songs since the beginning, starting with "WAR CRIES", a fan favorite, as well as "ALL YOU WANTED" included on the band's 'Greed E.P.' recorded at Mastermind Studio, Hamilton, in 2005. B.J. left the band in late 2005 to pursue other interests (including his solo project, under the name 'Greenfish') with Lisinski taking over singing duties. Lisinski's debut album as Sang-Freud's main vocalist, entitled 'More' was recorded at Mastermind Studio in '06-'07.
Sadly, in 2015, B.J. Fish passed away very suddenly in his home in Guelph, Ont. (R.I.P. 1972-2015). The band sends it's condolences to all of B.J.'s friends, family and fans. It's a shocking loss! He is greatly missed! His legacy, however, continues to live on in the music!
SANG-FREUD has had many influences over the years. Bands such as Black Sabbath(of course), Pink Floyd, Rush, Soundgarden, Megadeth, Death, and a wide variety of others have inspired them and continue to have an impact on the music. They have incorporated many different styles and genres of music into the band, while at the same time, concentrating on creating a style, and presence, all their own.
Though they have gone through several lineups in recent years, with Darryl "long live B.J. Fish" Chomniak recently recruited on the drums, Sang-Freud continues to create and play their music and hope to do so for quite some time yet. There are many new ideas in the works. Lots of energy left to burn! Stay tuned for information on their latest releases and upcoming shows.
Over and out there!
Sang-Freud would like to thank bands such as; Pouring Glass Dreams, Omega A.D., Vault, Westpoint, The Livid, Trapdoor, and all the great indie talent we have had the privilege to gig with. "The music of Sang-Freud is a cosmic entity all its own, exploring language to the edge of communicability, into the realm of emotion and on into the unknown. In combining philosophy with heavy metal, a surprising and delightfully artful blend of forces results. This is music that aims to transform people and the world; music, that is, as it should be."
