Sammy DeHavilland is a Birmingham based DJ who from a very young age enjoyed residences at some of the city's legendary clubs, after a period working abroad (one of the first DJ's to do so as a professional) for the renowned London based Bacchus International, he returned to his home town to open the now legendary Liberty's, where he was involved for most of his remaining career, musicly guiding the acclaimed club through its halcyon days. Retiring from DJ'ing at a relatively young age, to run his company DARE Professional Audio, who design, manufacture and install sound systems on a global basis, which still continues today.
His involvement in the fledgling “Dance Scene” in the 80's, and connections with underground promoters and venues, is well documented, but needless to say he and his companies provided a technological infrastructure via the knowledge he had gained from being at the leading edge both as a DJ and operator.
Musical influences are eclectic and varied, mainly due to his background, in particular his extended involvement with Candy Rock Recording, and whilst his biggest influences would be Black American music, ranging from Northern Soul, Imports, House, Funk Jazz and Soul, he has a deep, and unashamed passion for Disco Music.
Sammy is currently working on a creative collaboration, that will reflect these musings, and cites the Greg Wilson Philosophy as one of his biggest influences.
“Simply because of my lifelong involvement with music, I find it very hard to get past the first few moments of most tracks - I have heard them so many times, so anything that makes my SoundCloud Likes List here has to be creative, fresh, different and most of all classy, many of the Re-rubs that I have liked here are simply because they bring back the love of these tracks, and for that - I thank the producers who have devoted genuine skill, time and passion”
