Sam has been DJing for sixteen years, following a life-long fascination with music and sound. After beginning his career in his home town of Rawtenstall, he then secured his first residency at The Temple, Bolton in 2000 — which at the time, was the second largest capacity club in the UK. In 2002, Sam’s talents earned him a residency at Project Five Manchester, playing weekly sets for a night that was also hosted in New York, Berlin and London. As one of the Manchester residents, Sam played at Club North in the city's famous Northern Quarter before moving with the club night to the Music Box on Oxford Road. During this time, Sam also played many gigs in student bars such as Scubar on Oxford Road.
Moving to Leeds in 2003, Sam went on to produce a radio show for 2 years, highlighting not just his DJing talents but also his ability to move into broadcasting with ease. A lot of hard work paid off, and Sam secured guest mixes from John Digweed, Quivver, Keith McDonnell and Paolo Mojo, as well as showcasing up and coming talent. He also interviewed John Digweed for the show and broadcast a phone interview with Paolo Mojo. Sam played at several nights in Leeds including Quality Connects at the Mint club, warming up for Tribal Gathering’s Greg Vickers. His reputation also earned him gigs in Nottingham in 2004.
Sam’s DJ style has seemingly matured over the years, starting his career with progressive house, and having sampled many genres of house, branched into the more tech house sound. The digital revolution enabled Sam to experiment with different sounds and allowed him to develop further as a DJ as tracks became much more accessible. These days Sam’s sets also include a large slice of Techno. Sam loves to play long sets, sometimes all night, allowing him to take the listener on a musical journey through the many different sounds and genres that make up his taste in music. His vast experience and wide knowledge of music means Sam is as comfortable playing a deep warm up set as he is a closing set.
Sam moved to London in the summer of 2006 and over the last six years his reputation has grown further. In 2006 and 2007 Sam played many gigs across the capital for Audio Deluxe and Twisted Audio. These gigs allowed him to play alongside world-renowned DJ’s such as Kazell, Luke Fair, Omid 16b & Demi. At Easter 2007, he played in the Soundshaft at the legendary Bedrock, whilst John Digweed and Jimmy Van M headlined the main room. Gigs that summer saw Sam warm up for Neil Quigley and Paolo Mojo. He was then booked to play Bedrock for the second time in 2007, playing in the Departure Lounge for the birthday party in October.
In 2008 Sam played many gigs for BeatFREAK where he played alongside Global Underground's Anil Chawla and Alex Tepper from Futureshock. In August that year he played for Twisted Audio at Sasha's Invol2ver album launch party at Ministry Of Sound and in December headlined Nuestra Casa's 2nd birthday party as well as playing the last set at the Prefab party for the John Digweed Fabric night.
2009 saw Sam continue where he left off in 2008 with gigs at BeatFREAK, Safar, Tonefields and Ministry Of Sound. Then in October that year Sam joined forces with his long-time friend Darren Lee Fenton and set up Motion, a back-to-back DJ show and club night that has taken London by storm.
Since 2009 the Motion clubnight has gone from strength to strength, gaining a reputation for quality music as well as a fun and friendly night out. It allowed Sam and Darren to develop their sound further, the Motion sound, a mix of the best tech house, progressive and techno. Their unique style and rockin’ sets soon had a great following of like-minded, clued up party people. The night has featured DJ’s and producers such as Steve Parry, Sasha Le Monnier, Justin Steel, Ryan Luciano and Stu Hirst, as well as showcasing up and coming talent.
Over the last 18 months Sam and Darren have become regular guest DJ’s at the legendary Electronic Sessions nights playing alongside DJ’s such as Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo and Danny Howells. They have also played many gigs at Ministry Of Sound as well as the long running Empathy clubnight in Bristol.
This summer saw them become Electronic Sessions residents, play a sunset cruise boat party from the legendary party island of Ibiza and rock Nuestra Casa at their summer party back in London where they played a special 3 hour set.
Sam looks forward to many more incredible gigs in the near future as his reputation grows further...
