You’ll hear him saying the words “vibe” and “cuz” a lot. You’ll hear his infections laugh from across continents… a lot. You’ll hear bangers & whippers sounding from his corner playing anthem to the idea and mere whisper of having in fact, a banger… a lot. Ronald Rowley, DJ and one third of Cape Town party brand Strange Loving.
The original Durban party boy, finely-tuned in the art of the unexplained & extraordinarily good times had found himself greasing the cogs of legendary Durban clubs 3-30 and Tilt when it all began. Collecting vinyl and forging friendships, also a strong-point of R.R would have him be one of the first to clamp a residence at Origin and collectively securing residencies at Czar & Tilt. Inadvertently this rooted R.R in the playgrounds of producers he grew up on. To name, Inland Knights , Da Sunlounge, Kinky Movement, Toka Project, Lawnchair Generals and Jay West. But Cape Town, the unforgiving, was calling…
Resilient in the face of adversity, R.R is not always the big name on the flyer nor poster, but more the silent assassin who has the crowd leaving at the end of the night with the biggest smiles. Often replies by alias…“and more”. It is this finesse and unequivocal commitment to succeed that has found his efforts on the hardware alongside DJs Soul Clap, Miguel Campbell, Kolombo, Claptone, Inland Knights, NTFO, Kolombo again for good measure, Karmon, David August, HNQO, Droog, and yes, insert the clichéd and ever-present statement in every bio under the sun… “And many more”. No big deal.
“ I have been known to start off my sets a little bit shaky but I always come into my own , usually on the backend of day 3 playing my mp3’s in some random persons lounge.” - RR
