"People often write to me and say that this song in particular strikes a chord in them. Maybe it’s because I was going through a difficult time in my life when I wrote it that people are able to relate to it. Our teenage years seem to be difficult ones for many of us, especially if one is sensitive. I know there is a tendency to want to Hide in Your Shell.” ~ Roger Hodgson
Roger Hodgson’s latest release, Classics Live, is a spectacular collection of live performances from his solo, band and orchestra shows around the world recorded on his 2010 World Tour. Roger, co-founder of Supertramp, is the singer/songwriter of the band's greatest hits to include Dreamer, Give a Little Bit, Breakfast in America, The Logical Song, Take the Long Way Home, Fool's Overture, It's Raining Again, Hide in Your Shell, and so very many more.
The songs Roger Hodgson sings that are often referred to as Supertramp songs are songs that Roger wrote and composed alone - that is how he creates music. He will often hear the musical composition first and then the lyrics come. Sometimes he will hear the whole song complete inside himself before he puts it down on paper and recording. Supertramp as a band never wrote and composed together, there were only two songwriters for the band. The songs Roger sings lead vocals on are the ones he composed the music and lyrics for, and the songs Rick sings lead vocals on are the ones that he wrote.

Here are some messages Roger has received from fans all over the world ~
"You exceeded my expectations. You are truly a legend and I must say I was profoundly touched by your humility and gentle personality, thank you, merci, for such a memorable evening. Your music will forever be eternal."
"I went to my first concert at the age of 44 to see your show. I was so amazed by the experience. I have to say you sound like you did when I was 15 buying your albums. I had goose bumps most of the night. I think you actually care about your guests and we all felt so welcome my friend. Thanks for an experience that will stay with me for the rest of my days."
"I was a typical teenager being pulled in a hundred different directions. Some of them frightening and lonely. Hide in Your Shell spoke directly to my heart. It told me I wasn't alone and that any good that would come of my life would be a direct result of me summoning up my courage and living true to the values and principals I felt. "I, as a boy, I believed the saying the cure for pain was love. How would it be if you could see the world through my eyes?" struck me as Shakespeare. Thirty plus years down the road now. Words to a boy are now a creed for a man."
Classics Live Review
For most of my life, I've loudly and proudly identified myself as a Supertramp fan. All these years later, I listen with awe to the altogether stunning new Classics Live album only to discover that I am, in fact, first and foremost, a major Roger Hodgson fan. His is the voice that spoke to me as a young man, and speaks to me even more powerfully all these years later. An utterly inspired collection of live performances of the best-loved songs that Roger Hodgson has written and sung to date, Classics Live reminds us in the most vivid way who brought the world such beloved rock standards as "Give A Little Bit," "Take The Long Way Home," "The Logical Song" and "Dreamer," and why these shining songs endure as deeply personal yet somehow universal expression of longing, love and our endless search for human connection.
