Days Gone By by Rock Oakeson published on 2013/03/21 23:52:03 +0000 My orchestral arrangement of my original piece for solo piano. This piece appeared in my collection, "The Plum Tree, and Other New Pieces for Piano Solo for Intermediate to Advanced Pianists" (2001), published by Alcove Music Publications in King, North Carolina. In the Preface to this collection, I wrote about this piece: "Often, as I was growing up, my mother and father would tell me about their family histories, and how difficult the times were for them after they settled in the Salt Lake Valley from the old countries. Days Gone By is a musical tone poem about my family's pioneer past. After being mostly in the key of G minor, it ends on a sudden lighter G major sonority, suggesting that even the most difficult beginnings ultimately end in happier times. This piece is dedicated to my wonderful mother and father who lovingly adopted me when I was a baby."
