Barefoot and Baroque by Rock Oakeson published on 2013/03/22 00:33:26 +0000 My original piece for solo piano. This piece appeared in my collection, "The Plum Tree, and Other New Pieces for Piano Solo for Intermediate to Advanced Pianists" (2001), published by Alcove Music Publications in King, North Carolina. In the Preface to this collection, I wrote about this piece: "Barefoot and Baroque was originally something I made up on the spur of the moment during my undergraduate music school's 'Eighteenth Century Counterpoint' class, and was intended as a joke on my fellow classmates. Parodying the style of J.S. Bach's 'two-part inventions,' this piece seemed to capture the spirit of the late 1960s and early 1970s pop culture, when I was a very happy teenager. Therefore, I wish to dedicate this piece to all of us closeted 'flower children' and 'hippies' who, back then, were afraid to admit it."
