The day before yesterday - Wednesday October 23rd. I uploaded a track to another great Soundcloud group: the EXTROSPECTION group where the idea is to make music based on a image that changes once a month. I chose to use the track for this weeks Junto since I struggled a little getting it just right and done…oh I should mention that the EXTROSPECTION group is run by Sozu Projects who's also a Juntoist…
When I received the image of the African woman apparently gathering trash at a dump, next to pigs eating, with a grey and somewhat gloomy sky in the background, I heard a specific sound in my head, and for three weeks I've been trying to get it out of my head and into my DAW… I heard looping minor chords cut a bit abrupt + some kind of droney dusty wash behind the chords…while working on getting what I imagined, I went all over the place and ended up with two tracks and chose the one you hear. The chords came from a Juno 106 clone in Reaktor recorded into Ableton Live exported to iDensity on my iPad and back into Ableton. The dusty drone in the beginning is a manipulated field recording of winds. The feedback at 1.06 is done with two oscillators in Reaktor - Metaphysical Functions. The pretty, but sad drone appearing halfway through is the chord loop after a trip through Ambience_v03. In the end the chords come back with the dusty sound to wrap up the track….No, it doesn't sound like the initial music I heard when I first saw the picture.
Recently I've been working on cleaning up my tracks and just leave the essentials. The picking and choosing I find to be a bit difficult. Having enough time, like in this particular instance a month, doesn't make it easier.
I would love to hear if the sound a image connects, and makes sense as a whole. And ofcourse any other comments you might have.
All the best
Disquiet Junto Project 0095: Discuss Amongst
This week's Disquiet Junto project is fairly open-ended. You don't need to create a new track, necessarily. What you need to do is to post a single track, a relatively recent one, that you would like feedback on from your fellow music- and sound-makers in the Disquiet Junto.
There are three steps to this project, and each step is equally important:
Step 1: Upload a track. Please do not post a track that has previously appeared in the Disquiet Junto.
Step 2: When filling in the various informational fields, be sure to write in some length a description of your process in planning, composing, and recording it. This description is an essential element of the communicative process inherent in the Disquiet Junto.
Step 3: As tracks are added by other musicians, be sure to comment on at least two or three of them. The more people who participate, the stronger the feedback and conversation will be.
Deadline: Monday, October 28, 2013, at 11:59pm wherever you are.
Length: Your track should have a duration of between one and six minutes.
Title/Tag: Include the term “disquiet0095-discussamongst” in the title of your track, and as a tag for your track.
Download: Please consider employing a license that allows for attributed, commerce-free remixing (i.e., a Creative Commons license permitting non-commercial sharing with attribution).
Linking: When posting the track, be sure to include this information:
