Matt McCormick Desert Island Disco by ripcityreview published on 2012-05-16T23:01:17Z Matt McCormick's "The Great Northwest" recreates a 3,200 mile road trip taken by 4 women in the late 1950's down to the last footstep. The documentary was inspired by a detailed scrapbook, complete with cocktail napkins, matchbooks, National Park maps, and personalized notes, which McCormick found in a thrift shop. The Great Northwest offers a perspective of the changes that have taken place over the last 50 years by comparing the landscapes and roadside attractions of now and then. The film touches on many themes, including nostalgia for American culture, environmentalism and urban-planning, and the history of the American West, but is more importantly a beautifully shot time-capsule of a collective culture. We caught up with Matt for some further insight into his film. We also wondered what it would be like if Matt had his very own desert island.
