PSALM OF THESE DAYS (2019) by Michael Schelle published on 2020-02-15T12:16:42Z Michael Schelle PSALM OF THESE DAYS (2019) - for eight pianists in eight practice rooms Written fo the Elliott Schwartz Memorial Practice Rooms Project. January 2020 - Portland, Maine The iconic Thomas Tallis theme (a Schwartz favorite via RVW) gradually emerges from controlled / directed improv / ad lib / chaos - as all players, one by one, phase into the Tallis hymn, generating many overlapping C# cadences at the close, bringing peace. The pianists are Melsen Carlsburg, Bridget Convey, Jesse Feinberg, George Lopez, Gulimina Mahamuti, Chiharu Naruse, Steven Pane and Jim Parakilas. The ending 4:00 of this has become one of my favorite things - honored that "Psalm of These Days" (written for the occasion) was selected to END the Elliott Schwartz Memorial Practice Rooms Project - January 2020, Portland (Maine) Conservatory of Music. The beautiful event, lovingly organized by Philip Carlsen, featured eight composers writing for eight pianists in seven practice rooms.
