EXTRACTION ON NO. 8 (2004) for orchestra by Michael Schelle published on 2013-08-19T02:13:14Z EXTRACTION ON NO. 8 (2004) by Michael Schelle Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Neal Gittleman, conductor No. 8 is the front tooth. Inspired by (and dedicated to) my son Paddy who, in 2003, as a senior on the varsity basketball team at JFK High School in NY, he went up for a layup / dunk and was smashed to the hardwoods from behind. Both his front teeth went flying out of his head, leaving two stumps, a giant bloody mess and 8 yrs of reconstructive orthodontic adventures. The relentless 'highest note possible' piccolo part is whir of the dentist drill. The piece has become a staple of orchestral Halloween programs across the US.
