The classically-trained composer-turned-producer Andrew Reilly (a.k.a Riff Kitten) started his musical journey making music for commercials, television programs, and video games. As a recent alumnus of the University of Minnesota's Music Theory / Composition program, where he graduated cum laude with honors, he enjoyed the challenge of creating the perfect musical score for each of his client's vision. His work was rewarding, giving him the opportunity to create everything from 8-bit video game soundtracks (Lodestar 1000), to MTV reality show background music, to commercials for businesses such as Protolabs and the Minneapolis Heart Institute, as well as a viral advertisement for the popular bacon-scented cologne company Fargginay. At the same time, he continued to write classical music on the side, receiving first prize in the regional Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra's Young Composer Competition for orchestra.
After several years of working on a wide variety of projects, Andrew began to have an itch to compose music just for himself. His interest in electronic music had always been strong, steadily growing each year until his Riff Kitten alias was born in 2019, an avenue to release music freely created for his own sake with a seemingly endless range of influences. A prolific writer, having learned to compose rapidly from the tight schedules of former clients, Riff Kitten stayed busy in 2019. His debut album 'Seven Stories' seamlessly blended Chill and Soul, featuring an array of richly blended acoustic and electronic sounds, while his follow-up EP 'Spirit Calling' built upon his first work with the addition of several Rock elements being mixed in. Unphased by music industry temptations to stay within a single genre, he began to switch gears and create Electro-Swing, inspired by his favorite artist, the modern Swing pioneer Parov Stelar. 'Jazzy Cuts' features its own brand of Downtempo-tinged Swing, while his singles 'Swag Rag' and 'She'll Make You Lose Your Mind' follow the path of traditional Ragtime-styled Swing and Dark Neo-Swing respectively. While an incredibly versatile and genre-bending artist, Riff Kitten maintains certain themes within his music, particularly his Minimalistic melodies that slowly evolve into new textures and layerings.
Riff Kitten was born and raised in Minneapolis, where he currently resides, and is also an avid soccer (football) fan and watcher. His favorite team is Liverpool. His artist namesake was inspired by his three year-old cat named Zeus, who fetches and provides moral support during times of music-making.
